The University gained a thorough understanding of the potential value of their technology, and a detailed insight into the needs of the customer. Armed with this knowledge the Technology transfer team intend to use this to leverage a better deal with their prospective licensee's as well as using the commercial assessment to help secure funding from their regional development agency.
Project Background
A world class University, with technology that could provide superior particle dectection capability, needed to understand their options for exploitation, and assess the potential market for their intellectual property. Burgundy Gold completed a broad assessment of the needs of end users of the detector, as well a thorough review of the commercial opportunity. In particular the technology transfer team knew that the market for their technology would be fairly limited, so as part of a commercial assessment exercise, Burgundy Gold suggested the project encompass a test of the needs of end users. This involved detailed interviews with leading research scientists in the analytical sciences to establish the valuable benefit of the novel approach. As the potential license partners for the technology are strategically committed in particular R&D areas, Burgundy Gold recommended that this information could be used to help bring the parties to the table, as well as define the technical development needs of the next stage of the exploitation process.
